Trace Route

How to do a trace route:

1. Go to the MS-DOS Prompt (Start, Programs, MS-DOS Prompt OR Start, Programs, Accessories, MS-DOS Prompt).

2. Type in the following and press enter:

tracert <fill in your domain name or ip address>

Any numbers over 300 or *'s means there is packet loss (lost data) between your ISP (dial up provider) and the server.

Please keep in mind that the Internet is like an information super highway, and the server sits on part of the highway waiting for your ISP (car) to go from your point of dial up (hopefully a local number) to the server.

Often times it has been our experience that the ISP chooses a bad road, and this can lead to slow or bad Internet connections.
