How to move to in-house mail server

  1. Here are the steps to move from our mail services to your mail services:

Make sure your domain name registrar --- Network Solutions in your case -- has our name servers listed (yours does not):

NS1.DNI-NAMESERVERS.COM 209.173.130.13

NS1.DNI-NAMESERVERS.COM 209.173.130.14

Please make sure our name servers are the only ones listed.

  1. Log into your control panel at https://cp.dynamicnet.net:8443/

  2. Click on WWW Domains in the Quick Access menu area

Click on the "ON" button next to "Mail Service"; follow the prompts.

IMPORTANT

  1. This will turn off mail services on our end.
  2. Any mail left in any POP3 email box will be lost.

CRITICAL NOTE:  If you want to use our mail services for outgoing email for web-based forms, you can leave mail service on, but you should go to the E-Mail Manager section and delete the email address from our server leaving just postmaster and possibly webmaster.

  1. Click on the "edit" button next to "DNS Configuration"
  1. Click on "Add DNS MX Record"

Leave the "Name" field blank

Put in your mail server preference (a number) in the "Data" field.

Put in "mail.[your domain name without any www]" in the field next to the data field (no quotes or brakets)

Click on Submit.

  1. Click on "Add DNS A Record"

Enter "mail" (no quotes) in the "Name" field.

Change number in TTL field to 3600

Enter the IP address of your mail server in the "Data" field.

Click on Submit.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  1. When you run your own mail server:

While you can change the IP address of your Mail server at any time, please be sure to notify us of the IP address so we can keep our records up to date.

Certain areas are automated when you run your own mail server, and other areas are not.

Always make sure we know the IP address of your Mail server.

  1. You are responsible for anti-virus scanning of the email.

  2. You are responsible for any spam prevention and spam tagging of email.

  3. You are responsible for ensuring your mail server is set up according to the various Internet rules and regulations; and to ensure your mail server IP address is never black listed by a real time black list due to abuse or failure to comply with the various Internet regulations on running an Internet mail server.

  4. Should your mail server go down, you may lose mail depending on how long the sending mail server keeps unsent mail. This is typically one to seven days.
