Womelsdorf, December 8, 1998: On Tuesday, December 8, Peter Abraham, President of
Dynamic Net Inc., addressed the Conrad Weiser Rotary Club on the issue of the Y2K problem.
The speech provided an update on and notification of the unresolved problem to local
business personnel. The election of Abraham as the speaker was possible because of his
objective stance on the matter.
Abraham was surprised to learn of the stealth nature of the issue, "In the
Berks County Community, most businesses believe that the problem is blown out of
proportion, or that it is someone else's problem.
The sad thing is that it is everyone's problem, that's why we must investigate our
systems to check for Y2K compliance."
The Y2K problem is a glitch in computer programs that could cause problems with
everyday programs such as Automatic Teller Machines, Government Financial Systems, and
Airplanes. The nature of this problem is two fold; the general correction of the problem
and a year that is left for businesses to fix the problem.
Abraham elaborated on the Y2K issue, "The US Small Business Association
declared that 300,000 small businesses would close due to this problem. I would hate to
see any Berks County Businesses be apart of that number."
