Where is my Web site?

Our goal at DNI is to help our
clients in any way we can and provide a level of customer service,
knowledge, and hand holding that cannot be found with our competitors.
Because this is one of the most
important goals we strive to meet, we do our best to keep our clients
abreast of developing updates and news related to the Internet.
One hot topic that has been coming up recently is domain name registration.
Normally this issue comes to
light in a rather innocuous way -- someone calls our technical support team
to ask if one of our servers is down and ends up finding out that the reason
their site and email are down bigger problem than originally expected.
Uh, oh…..your domain name has
expired.
You may not be aware of this, but
unless you ordered your domain through our company, or transferred your
domain and registration information (to make our company a technical contact
on the domain) since you came on board, we have no way to track domain
expirations.
No one does, at any company.
When a domain name is registered,
there are usually 3 important contacts listed on the registration:
- The company name / information
(known as the Registrant)
- The main contact for the
domain (known as the Admin Contact)
- The main technician on the
domain (known as the Technical Contact)
When a domain is registered,
those fields are filled out, and unless they are modified as time goes by,
they are the only individuals who have any access/rights to the domain.
When a domain is going to expire,
they are the only individuals who receive any notice that it is time to
renew the domain.
The only way most domain
registrars (the companies who keep these records) contact the owner of the
web domain is by email.
There is a decent chance that you
will never know when it’s time to renew your domain if DNI is not listed as
a technical contact, and your email address has changed since you’ve
registered your domain.
Over the past few months, we have
seen a dramatic increase in the number of companies losing their domains due
to missing the expiration date, and the only they find out is because their
site goes down and their email stops working
Do you know when your domain is
going to expire?
When is the last time you have
checked the contact information on your domain name?
Are there former employees, old
web designers, or maybe someone worse still listed as parties who can make
decisions on your domain name?
At DNI, we are here to help you.
Why not take a few minutes to
call us at 1-888-887-6727 or email us at
to find out how we can help make
sure you don’t wake up one morning to find that your domain has been
suspended or- even worse- belongs to another company (possibly even your
competitors!).
Don’t let a lack of information
cost your business itself in lost revenue, reputation, and who knows how
much money spent on letterhead, business cards, and other materials with
your email address or web site printed on it.
Thank you. |
