Is your ISP forcing you to use their mail server?
By Peter M. Abraham

A number of ISP's force their customers to use the ISP's outgoing mail server to send mail.  More and more of those ISP's also force their customers to use the email address assigned by the ISP.

This ends up taking away the branding power of using your own domain name as part of your email address.

The ISP's typically do this by listening to port 25 (SMTP -- Simple Mail Transport Protocol).

Dynamic Net, Inc. has set up a mail sever running on an alternate port which should be outside of the control of your ISP.

If your email program allows you to specify a different port for your outgoing mail server, you can now go back to using mail.[your domain name] as your outgoing mail server; and because of that, you can use a from address based on your domain name.

We've created written instructions including screen shots for your review at Using Alternate SMTP Port.

Please email our support department if you have any questions.

Thank you.
