IMPORTANT information about domain names
By Peter M. Abraham
June 2004
It was just the other day when I took a phone call from a customer asking
if we knew of any problems with email. They shared that they have not
received email all day; and that's uncommon for them. They didn't even
get any spam.
We checked the servers, and they were completely operational.
We then checked the domain name registration -- they had registered with
Network Solutions (also known as Verisign, WorldNIC, and InterNIC); and the
domain name expired on June 10, 2004.
There are several important things for you to keep in mind when it comes
to the domain names you own:
- Your domain names are not included as part of your hosting package.
Whether your register your domain name through us or another party, the
fees are completely separate from your hosting investment with us.
- We live in a world of people trying to scam you, slam you, and steal
from you.
Unfortunately there are companies out there who will send you fake
invoices and bills for domain name renewals.
While slamming (stealing you as a customer) is illegal in the
telecommunications industry, there are currently no laws about one domain
name registrar stealing you from your current one without your consent or
knowledge.
- You can protect yourself and your domain names by taking the following
steps:
- Know who is your domain name registrar.
You can probably name the gas stations you typically buy gas at in your
county.
You can probably name your bank without blinking an eye.
Know the name of your domain name registrar.
That way when you get bills and invoices from other domain name
registrars, you can easily see it as a scam.
- Consider using Dynamic Net, Inc. for registering and renewing your
domain names.

You can make your life easier by using us for hosting and your domain
name registration.
Aside from one less name to remember, we will take ever measure we can
to let you know your domain name is about to expire.
The growing number of people who lost their domain names completely
(not stolen, let go and some one else took it) or who had to pay high
redemption fees (because they let the expiration go on too long) can share
with you their registrar did not contact them to renew.
